Safe Sun Gazing For Strength, Healing And Transformation

People today are afraid of the sun. We fear naked exposure to its rays because of the advent of terrible skin cancers, burns and dried, aging skin. We fear looking directly into the light because we believe it’ll burn our eyes and destroy our vision.

All of this has validity but Hira Ratam Manek (also affectionately named HRM) and other proponents claim that most of our woes are due to:

  • harmful sunscreens with toxic ingredients. When you are painted or coated with lotions and creams — they get degenerated and the chemicals enter your body.  It is our malpractice -our wrong use- why we blame the sun for skin cancers.” – HRM
  • sunbathing during dangerous hours, when UV is high
  • starring at the sun during the wrong times, when UV is above 0
  • wearing glasses or contact lenses, which can deliver an unnatural glare into the eyes’ receptors

Many experts say that sun gazing is not only safe but also may be a powerful tool to:

  • Improve sleep
  • reestablish circadian rhythm
  • balance energy and psychology
  • absorb nourishing yang energy from the sun
  • readjust our eyes to natural sources and heal from exposure to artificial light

HRM has a website where he explains in detail his own story, the tenets of sun gazing and provides further resources. Herein is a summary of the method he devised. For more information check out the Solar Healing Center.[1]

HRM refers to this solar healing practice as “safe sun” for a reason. It’s no different than safe sex. Even good things become dangerous when done unwisely. We can eat too many avocados, drink lethal amounts of water and interact with the mighty sun at unwise times.

Safe Sun Guidelines:

  • Gaze only during the first hour of sunrise and/or sunset while UV rating is 0.
  • Sunbathe only during the first two hours of sunrise and/or sunset while UV rating is 0-2
  • DO NOT wear lenses or glasses while gazing.
  • If you’re unable to comfortably sun gaze for 10 seconds: warm up to the practice by soaking up sun through your skin (sunbathing) for the first few sessions. Eventually, says HRM, you’ll be able to graduate into receiving the rays through your eyes.
  • HRM says to sun gaze “with a positive attitude” for quickest and best results.

The solar healing practice is divvied into 3 main segments, briefly explained as follows.

Stage 1 – 0-3 months, up to 15 minutes of gazing

Emotional Healing

Your first gazing session will be a short and sweet 10 seconds. Each day add 10 more. If you’re consistent daily you’ll see potent results; if you miss days progress will occur more slowly.

Pray. HRM doesn’t prescribe it but says that if you do or would like to pray, this is a perfect time to do it.

When you fulfill three months you’ll have reach 15 minutes of uninterrupted gazing. Expect changes. During this period your body will have received solar power, rays of sunshine charging the hypothalamus tract leading from eye to brain; thus charging and activating your brain.

If you matched your gazing with prayers, with a heart of thankfulness, faithfully meditating on love, on things true, honest, noble and worthy of praise you’ll have kicked negativity and developed a positive mindset. HRM claims that fears and depression will fall away.

Stage 2 – 3-6 months, up to 30 minutes of gazing

Physical Healing

As you continue gazing at the sun, energy is no longer being used up for mental impairments or physical ailments; thus its storage level increases in your body.

Continue to add 10 seconds each time you practice. HRM says that most of our energy from food is spent on stress, tension and worries but as you develop a peaceful state your appetite for food will decrease.

With a lack of mental tension, brain does not require the same amount of energy as before.  As you proceed in sun gazing and as your tensions decrease the need for food intake will go down.

By the close of this stage you’ll have reached 30 minutes of continuous sun gazing.

During this month HRM says to expect physical healing. Your eyes will have received the entire spectrum of light consisting of the colors as in a rainbow or a prism. Color therapy literally takes place as your body absorbs the light. Red stimulates healing in the kidneys, green in the liver and so on.

During the 3rd-4th month you might add visualization. Imagine healing taking place in your body even as you rest and receive the light. I love to thank God for healing me even before I see it manifest. It increases my faith for the miracle. Believing is seeing!!

When this stage is fulfilled you’ll be consuming the original “micro food” and storing much more of it in your body to be used for healing and energizing.

Stage 3 – 6-9 months, up to 44 minutes of gazing

Freedom from Hunger

This is the final phase. Once it’s done, you’ll never need to do this 9 month exercise again.

Assuming you’ve been consistent, by the time you hit 35 minutes of sun gazing HRM all but promises that your desire for food will be reduced “palpably.” The steady practitioner will see dramatic loss of food cravings and hunger at 8 months; the slower by 9 months or at 44 minutes of gazing.

The method’s inventor holds that our bodies don’t require food they require energy and that food is an indirect source of the sun’s energy. “Therefore, as you consume the original form of food, hunger goes down starting to disappear eventually.

When this stage is complete, you’re fully solar charged. Your gazing work is done.

Stage 4 – after 9 months

Stop gazing, Stay Charged

This is pretty fun. The final and lasting instruction is to finish out the year walking barefoot on the earth for 45 minutes a day, 6 days a week. In fact, practice this for one full year and you’ll only need a few minutes of sun exposure every 3-4 days to stay solar powered. It could be grass, soil or sand.

Walk restfully in sunshine and when the day is warmest. Let it be relaxed, not strenuous running or jumping.

Barefoot walking stimulates your pineal gland, which produces hormones, regulates the endocrine system and more.

When this year is fulfilled HRM says you can stop except for the natural few minutes of sun exposure, or you can continue to barefoot walk and activate unreached parts of your brain. If you continue, he says you can expect:

  • immune system to strengthen
  • memory power to increase
  • intelligence to improve
  • more activation of the pineal gland

HRM makes huge utopian promises.

Personally, I think it may be worth a try but not with an empty mind (which HRM also suggests).

Explore what’s happening in your heart, mind and body. Sitting still at length, you’ll thought patterns and emotions. Wrestle against negativity and replace old, life sucking thoughts with life supplying truth.

I love this one: perfect love casts out fear.

HRM says that solar charging will rid you of fears. Fears are caused by believing a lie. Fearing social interaction or change, for example, is based in the deception that these things can harm you. They can’t. You were made for them. You might have to grow but growing pains lead to maturity, not harm.

Anything which obstructs lovingkindness or destroys relationships with people is based in a lie.

We don’t have to be everyone’s best friend, but our call is to love, ie, bless even our supposed “enemies;” never condemning but as much as possible seeking to have peace with all people. Your enemy will be confounded when you wish them well, pray for them and hope for their healing. But to do this under pressure takes immense strength.

Do we want to be the next guru or world power? Or do we want healing to make the way for more love, peace and joy to exude from us?

I believe the greatest power that we need today is the power to resist negativity, but bring peace to the restless and love to the unlovable. How many frustrated killers would have been healed if only one of us reached out?

I’m going to try this sun gazing and I’ll keep you posted on progress. We’d love to hear from those of you who’ve done it, and anyone entering in the fray.
