Want Guaranteed a Promotion? Be a Team Player and a Problem Solver
This type of environment will assist you in becoming a master in your career.
It does not matter whether your chosen career is in an employee roll or in your own business; you will need to have a high degree of skills as a team player.
You will not be able to succeed if you try doing it all yourself. You just simply will not have the time. And it is not possible to be highly skilled at everything. So, you will need to work with other people who are skilled in areas where you are not.
And why would you want to do so? Be smart and concentrate on the tasks that you enjoy in your career or business and outsource the rest. You also will have less stress and feel more relaxed in the daily routine of completing your tasks.
Seek out people who are better and more suitable within the aspects of your work that you loath to perform, and then work with them as a team player. Have you heard of anyone achieving success and then only thanking themselves for getting there?
Being a team player means listening to what other people are saying, sharing ideas and helping each other when help is needed. You need to know everyone has an important role to play, no matter how small. You also need to learn how to work together with people who have a common cause, which could be one of your important goals.
Learning to become a team player will challenge you to find ways to influence people, rather than put demands on them, or even push them to your way of thinking.
Once you have acquired these new skills, you will be happy to know that you can adapt them into other areas of your life. What about family life? Do you think you might need skills to be a team player within your family?
Of course you do. Any environment that requires more than one person involved in any given situation requires developing team-building skills. How many of these environments can you think of? There are so many that you would be wise to put “becoming a team player” on top of your “to do” list.
That is one reason why reading or writing is such a comfort for people; it gives them a chance to relax and not have to be concerned about how they are interacting with anyone but themselves. No need for team player skills here.
With just one skill discovered and implemented, you will see your career life change dramatically, and what if you learned more than one? Interesting….What about being a problem solver?
Do you want to take your career to the next level? Then be a problem solver. The only way to be a master at problem solving is to problem solve regularly. As the saying goes, the more you do, the easier it gets.
Let problem solving become a way of life for you. Because you never will be able to get to a point where you will have no issues in your life, or any area in your life as a matter of fact. So,the best you can do is learn how to deal with them in a better way so your journey flows smoothly.
Mother Teresa, an Albanian-born Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary (known in the Roman Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta) and the recipient of the 1979 Noble Peace Prize, once was quoted as saying, “God only gives me the things I can handle. I only wish he would not trust me so much.”
What Mother Teresa was trying to say is that we all have the capacity to deal with whatever comes our way and trust that we will be able to make the right choice when the time comes. The only difference is that we need to acquire more information or knowledge to overcome the challenges if we are indecisive as to what to do. But we can do it ourselves.
To quote Albert Einstein, “No problem can ever be solved with the same knowledge that created it.” So, there you have it. When someone asks you to solve a problem and you don’t know the immediate answer, do the research, get the information and return with the solution.
If you were a business owner, employee, corporate alliance, etc., do you think other companies or your employer would consider you to be valuable if you could assist in overcoming the challenges that arise on an ongoing basis? You bet they would. And how much do you think that would be worth to them if you were a master at it? Again, your net worth is in direct proportion to the service you can provide.
Before I leave this segment, I have a short poem that has helped me immensely in my own life’s journey. I would like to share this with you as a guide for whether you should decide to invest your time to solve an issue:
God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I
cannot change, Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.
Before I ever choose to do anything these days, I always ask myself this one question: Is this in my circle of direct control or is it not? If it is, and I do not know the solution, I will find it. If it is not, I let it go. Over the years, as I have said, it has become easier to implement and has saved me many times.
So, be a problem solver and a team player and begin solving other people’s issues.
