Personal Development…Hah, Who Needs It?…EVERYONE!
Don’t expect to have a successful, balanced life if you don’t invest your time in personal development.
Albert Einstein, a famous German-born theoretical physicist, once was quoted as saying, “You cannot solve a problem with the same knowledge that created it.”
So, if you created a problem or found yourself with a problem in your life, the reason you feel negative emotions such as anxiety, frustration, anger, etc., is because you have not invested the time to acquire more information or knowledge about the problem you are trying to overcome.
You don’t solve problems, you outgrow them. And as you get older, your problems change.
If you don’t have an ongoing self-development learning program, your problems always will surpass your solutions. You constantly will find that most of the time, you are not sure of the right action to take.
Therefore, you frequently will create your own unhappiness with those wrong choices because of your lack of knowledge at the time. Jim Rohn, an American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker, once was quoted as saying “Those that seek a better life must first become a better person.”
You don’t attract what you want, you attract who you are. Remember this powerful phrase: You must first Be, Do, Have. You must first be the person you want, to do the things you want, to have the things you want.
You see, you only can decide what to do with the information you have at that particular moment. That is why you hear people say, “It was the right thing to do at the time,” and it probably was. But if you are constantly improving yourself, your chances of making the wrong choice are far less than if you aren’t.
That is also why people older than yourself will be able to assist you when you are stumped because they are more likely to have the information and knowledge to share with you.
You only have three ways to lessen your hardship in this journey of life: you either get the knowledge by studying self-development, by listening to your elders or by learning from your mistakes.
These three ways are what are most commonly known as the acquisition of wisdom.
Sadly, most people prefer the latter, no matter what anybody says, nor what they study.
I have implemented all three in my years on this planet and I can tell you that I choose the first two every single time without hesitation. The latter is a road of extreme ups and downs and I do not want to go on that scary ride ever again.
Can you imagine how much control you would have over your life if you worked to improve your knowledge in all areas of your life? How anybody can believe that without studying and acquiring the specialized knowledge so they can obtain the skill set needed to make a calculated, low-risk decision in any area of their life is beyond me. Yet they do.
They believe they know better or they just leave the end result to the wind and deal with come what may. How can you know better if you have not taken the time to find, for example, how successful people have done it before you and do just as they did? Why would you want to re-invent the wheel?
Instead of taking a long time to achieve what you want in your life, it will take only a short time and you are home free. You wouldn’t begin to cut someone’s hair if they asked and you didn’t have the necessary experience or knowledge to do that. Or drive a car if you haven’t studied the rules of the road and been shown how to manipulate the automobile to drive safely.
When I am in uncomfortable situations and I am searching for some guidance, one of my favorite strategies is finding a self-development book or a reputable website and seeing what the experts say about it. Then, I will adjust their advice to my personal problem and, more likely than not, I am very happy with the outcome I have created for myself.
It has been my experience that the more you do this, the more your intuition grows. You develop a stronger sense of being right because you are being guided by your higher self and the true almighty source of creation: God.
Develop yourself by studying self-development.
